ST. JOHN GREEN

MICHAEL BAXTER   VIC SABINO   ED BISSOT   BILL KIRKLAND   SHELLY SCOTT

Formed in 1967, this young band, was a compilation of ideas and styles fueled by

the Poetry of Ed Bissott  and the Song Writing of Mike Baxter and Vic Sabino.

The two adverse styles and approaches created a unique fusion and musical alliance that evolved quickly and soon found a home in the hills of Topanga Canyon ...

an area east from the coast of Southern California near Malibu and up into the hills that seperate the coastal communities from the San Fernando Valley, north of Los Angeles.

A haven and sanctuary for Actors, Artists, Musicians and drop outs from the corporate worlds below.

"The infamous Topanga Corral" "became our musical residence and a source of  inspiration".

SJG was courted, and recorded by notorious record producer Kim Fowley for Michael Curbs Sidewalk Productions. The only LP SJG made was released in 1968 under the MGM FlickDisc label.

The band, unsettled with the project, and with differences in direction apparent,

split up shortly after the recording was finished.

“[‘St. John Green’ is] one of the great lost records...Somebody will reissue it someday and people will ...... start crying ...... to it.  It’s a great record. There’s only a handful of records that I’ve made that are great.”
